Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)

The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is a professional organization of over 39,000 members. ONS is dedicated to promoting excellence in oncology nursing and the transformation of cancer care.

Ensuring Safe Practice and Reducing Exposure

In order to ensure safe practice and reduce exposure, the ONS recommends a hierarchy of controls based on NIOSH and OSHA standards. These controls include biological safety cabinets, CSTDs such as Chemfort™, defined procedures and policies, and comprehensive staff training. In addition, ONS recommends PPE, which has been demonstrated to protect healthcare professionals against exposure to hazardous drugs.
