International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners (ISOPP)

The International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners (ISOPP) serves to advance oncology pharmacy care for patients worldwide.

ISOPP has determined that:

“in cytotoxic reconstitution both microbiological contamination and hazardous drug containment are concerns. The NIOSH definition is therefore the most comprehensive and complete.

A Closed System Drug-transfer Device (Closed System) is a drug transfer device that … - mechanically prohibits the transfer of environmental contaminants into the system - and the escape of hazardous drug or vapor concentrations outside the system.”

ISOPP further indicates that CSTDs should contain drug vapors and states that “filters with a diameter of 0.22 microns and HEPA filters DO NOT retain the vapor of cytotoxic products. Filters with active
carbon can absorb vapors.”
